[My Hero, Hope - São Paulo, 2020]

The mural at 1313 Maestro Cardim Street in São Paulo is primarily an expression of homage. With the eminence of the pandemic scenario in Brazil and around the world in 2020, I was instigated to conceive an artistic intervention that took into account the current context.

In this context, the challenge at first was how to encapsulate a feeling of universal comfort through a subtle imagistic representation, imbued with an affectionate reinforcement of hope, especially in such adverse times. I thus sought to create a work that would establish a dialectic, capable of resonating both with those who were confined to their homes and those still engaged in a direct confrontation of their particular challenges through the personification of hope in the boy, whose childhood projects such strength and power in the figure of his own heroes and heroines.

In partnership with cultural producer Luan Cardoso, whose support proved invaluable in encouraging the materialization of my artistic style, until then based on ink and watercolor for urban murals. I set out, through a reinterpretation of a preliminary drawing, to create an image that would pay tribute to the dedication of all the health professionals who are on the front line in this critical period, risking their lives for the sake of humanity. And they will not be forgotten.
